A Lancaster-based security company has purchased an Ohio firm, bringing 3,500 customers to its business, according to a news release.

Kourt Security Partners LLC, which does business as Select Security, on Wednesday announced the purchase of FM Systems in Medina, Ohio. The deal is one of the largest in Select Security's history, the company said.

FM Systems is a large security installer serving Akron and Cleveland, according to the news release. All 12 of FM Systems' employees will continue in their roles, Select Security said.

"Ohio is a key market for Select Security as we continue to expand and grow," Select Security President Patrick Egan said in a statement. "And because of FM Systems' history and strength in the eastern Ohio region, we are now in a strong position to continue our westward expansion project."

The purchase is the company's first expansion outside of Pennsylvania, Egan told the Business Journal. It plans to continue growing in the Ohio market, using FM Systems as a platform, he said.

"Our whole operational plan is to be a major provider in small markets; it was a natural progression for us to be a contender in the acquisition market in Ohio," Egan said.

Select Security will support and expand FM Systems' security alarm and business telephone systems, the company said.

The Lancaster business offers security, fire alarm and video monitoring systems, as well as fire sprinkler systems, according to the release.
